Teachers in Ghana now have a powerful new tool to secure their financial future. GLICO Pensions Trustee has officially unveiled the Teachers’ Provident Fund Scheme (TPFS)—a voluntary retirement savings plan designed to help educators build wealth and enjoy peace of mind after they stop working.
Why This Matters for Teachers
Teachers are the backbone of Ghana’s education system, yet many worry about having enough money in retirement. This new scheme gives them a way to save extra money beyond what’s required by law, helping them build a comfortable future independent of government pensions alone.
Early Success Tells a Promising Story
The numbers speak for themselves. During its trial phase, the scheme attracted 2,649 teachers from the Ghana Education Service, who contributed over GH¢15.2 million. Thanks to smart investment decisions, those savings have already grown to about GH¢18 million. Even better—36 members have already started receiving retirement payments totaling over GH¢346,000.
How It Works
- Easy sign-up: Teachers can register entirely online using their staff ID
- Flexible contributions: Members can save up to 16.5% of their monthly salary, tax-free
- Peace of mind: Each person gets their own account to track exactly how much they’ve saved
- Emergency access: After three years, members can withdraw up to half their savings if they need it
- Bonus protection: New members get free life insurance for their first three years
Payments can be made through payroll deductions, bank transfers, or mobile money—whatever works best.
A Commitment to Teachers
GLICO Pensions’ CEO, Belinda Dede-Tandoh, put it simply: “Teachers dedicate their lives to shaping the future of this nation. They deserve financial security and dignity in retirement.”
The scheme was fully approved by Ghana’s National Pensions Regulatory Authority and is built on strong safeguards to protect members’ money while ensuring steady growth.
With this launch, GLICO Pensions is reinforcing its mission to help Ghanaians—especially hardworking educators—build brighter financial futures.
